Durian feast expected as price of Musang King drops
KUALA LUMPUR: Durian lovers are in for a feast as the Musang King variety is now selling for as low as RM15 per kilo.
This price is expected to last until fasting month, said a durian supplier.
Workers at Chin Yong Fruits Trading Sdn Bhd in Cheras said the Musang King durians planted in Johor were sweeter while the ones from Pahang were bittersweet.
“People prefer the Pahang variety because the seed is small.
“This variety sells for around RM25 per kilo,” said worker Siti Lizairoh Sauri, 33.
The price of Musang King has been going down since March.
The stall has an eat-all-you-can offer at RM9 per person for the ordinary variety.
In George Town, the price of Musang King, or Mau Shan Wang, has dropped by nearly 30% .
Durian seller Lim Teow Seng, 74, who runs a stall at Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, said the durian was now going for about RM25 per kilo compared to RM35 when the durian season first started, due to consistent supply.
As for other sought-after varieties like Ang Heh and Hor Lo, Lim said they now cost RM15 per kilo compared to about RM30 initially. Via TheStar
