Karate Kid #1 At Box Office

The Karate Kid finally K.O.’d three-week box office champion Shrek in another soft summer weekend for movies.
Karate Kid, a remake starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith of the 1984 martial-arts film, lead the pack with a $56 million opening weekend. It far outpaced second-place action newcomer The A-Team, which opened with $26 million.
That left DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek Forever After in fourth place with a $15.8 million weekend.
